Bought this book because it promises it will teach you a thing or two about Facebook Marketing, soon i realized this book was written for those who have spend the last 5 years on the bottom of the ocean or any other place without no access to the internet.
The whole book is a collection of screenshots on how to setup a facebook account, how to create a page, how to post something, how to share a picture, etc. all basic stuff which is pretty straight forward and has nothing to do with marketing.
In fact he doesn’t touch marketing at all in this book apart from how to setup an add campaign and create a group.
The real life examples aren’t real life examples. screenshots of blank reports, what will it tell us?
I mean, why spent an entire chapter on facebook’s marketplace if you mention already in the first paragraph that this can not be used for any commercial messages, then why bother? its only useful if you having a personal garage sale.
Its obvious this book is written by a computer geek, who is not a professional marketer. Its written for people who don’t know anything about facebook and have no clue what online marketing is. It is certainly not for a marketing professionals. I would be surprised if they would take something away from this book. Therefore wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone who is looking for facebook marketing tricks, pretty sure there are better books out there written by people who actually ran a marketing campaign or two on Facebook.

I think a lot of businesses and entrepreneurs are still a bit wary about Facebook. Without a doubt, Facebook is the focal point of a lot of activity with many potential customers waiting to hear about your product. Unfortunately, the open communication that makes Facebook great doesn’t always connect well with keeping private and public lives separate.
Facebook Marketing clarifies the pros and cons of marketing on Facebook. It then goes into detail about how to market successfully on and off the site. Moreover, the book doesn’t just cover creating an account and adding pictures of your dog. It looks into how to create attractive pages, placing ads on Facebook, and even creating Facebook apps. In this way, the book provides a nice overview of a variety of promotional options.

I bought this book because it was highly recommended, but have to say I was disappointed. I have had a page for a long time but never understood its purpose other than as a time waster. I don’t get why I would want to know what every one I’ve ever met, or even not met, is doing at any point in time. I have email for that. So I’ve read the book and I still don’t get it. It’s not clearly explained for a newbie. Off the top of my head… “send your first status using the Publisher tool.” OK, where is that? What is that? Is that the Wall? It finally gets explained many pages later. What’s automatic updates? And here’s my biggest complaint – all the graphics are so small I can barely see them with a magnifying glass. Then it says cruise around and interact with your friends, but not too much, just a couple of items a day. Why is more too much and why would I want to do this in the first place? “News stream,” “News feed,” which means what – all the junk that everyone on my friends list puts out all day long? If I had nothing else to do, that might be vaguely interesting, but otherwise, so what? Not explained in THIS book. Requests, invites, events…places where I need to take action. Why? And do what? Why would I want to spend time commenting and “liking” on all the stuff coming in from people I may or may not know? “Friend feed,” “Wall to Wall,” Commenting feature”…? “Back and forth communication” – isn’t email a lot simpler and a lot less time wasting and only for people I really know, not the hundreds or even thousands on a Friends list? And that whole privacy setting thing – friends, friends of friends, etc. Good grief. If I split them all into different lists, then I’ve just multiplied all the places I need to keep updated! Pages, groups, fans, notes, boxes…what the hell?
Moving on – I got the book because I want to use it for business. At this point, I still don’t know how a business page differs from a personal page, other than the amount of personal info I may choose to divulge. “Claim” a page – this is different from just starting a page? Applications. What are those? Is that the games, like this Farmville I keep hearing about? The author says there are 14,000 apps to choose from. Like what? And why would I want or need them?
I could go on and on and keep on spiralling down. Maybe it’s not the author’s fault – maybe if I could SEE the graphics it would help. Who knows? I know as much about FB as I did before I read the book, which isn’t a lot. I’ve got a web site, a blog, email, all of which take too much time as it is. Why would I need to add FB to this mix? It just feels like a place for people with nothing better to do than cruise around, reading what others are eating for breakfast, scoring on games, liking and fanning and on and on.
I guess what I want to know is not so much HOW as WHY. I just don’t see the point and this book didn’t enlighten me.

I happen to run through this book and i must say that Justin has defined the possibilities of marketing inside facebook pretty well.
He has covered all major aspects or Facebook and all segments well.
Maybe he could have emphasized on the importance of FB Applications a bit more.
Yet! I recommend this for everyone who is looking to explore the possibilities of promoting your product / service to millions of people effectively.
cheers!
